INSTALL & USE

Install a web app on Android

If you open the same stock list every morning, an app icon can save you hunting through browser tabs. Use the browser and device you plan to use at work, because another phone may show different options.

These instructions follow Google’s Chrome documentation, checked October 25, 2026. Physical Android installation has not been tested for this guide.

Install with Chrome

  1. Open Chrome on your Android phone or tablet.
  2. Visit the web app’s address.
  3. Open the menu beside the address bar.
  4. Choose Install and create shortcut, then Install, when those options are available.
  5. Follow the confirmation steps, then open the app from its icon.

The wording can vary across versions. A shortcut option is not proof that the site has offline features. Use the linked Google help page when the menu does not match.

If the install option is missing

First confirm that you opened the site in Chrome itself, rather than a small browser inside another app. Check whether the app is already installed. A managed work device may also restrict what can be installed.

You can usually continue using the website without installing it. Tell the builder your Android version, Chrome version, and the menu options you see. That is more useful than repeatedly tapping a banner that does nothing.

Try the task from the icon

Use a sample entry. Close the app, open it again, and verify the entry. If it claims offline support, wait until the app reports that its files are ready, disconnect, and repeat the task.

Check any export file while you still have reception. If the app only stores records on this device, an icon on your other phone will not bring them across.

Remove it without losing records

Export anything you need before uninstalling. Google documents removal through Android Settings, Apps, the app’s entry, then Uninstall. Read the confirmation carefully.

Keep the original web address and the exported file until you know you can recover your records. For an unfamiliar change to the app’s name or icon, verify it with the owner before entering more information.
